“I run because I can, I run because they can’t”
That’s a powerful statement to me because a year ago I couldn’t run. I was morbidly obese. I was an undiagnosed diabetic. I was completely sedentary. I was dwindling my life and my health away every day.
Something changed in September 2009 when I took control of my life and started making healthier choices. I became a healthy eater. I became more fit. I became active. I became a runner.
Unlike so many others who have been stricken by cancer, I had a choice to get healthy and start running. There are countless children who would LOVE to have that choice but can’t because of cancer. So, I am running for them and hoping that someday we will live in a cancer free world where children can be free to run all they want.
What happened to Caleb and the Whan’s could happen to ANYONE. Nobody should have to explain to their child why his hair is falling out. Nobody should have to sit by their child’s bed and wonder if that day would be his last.
NOBODY.
And that’s why I’m running with Caleb’s Crusade in the 2011 Disney Half-Marathon. When I heard about this organization, I was immediately touched by Caleb’s legacy and the strength his family has displayed. If ONE family is helped because I chose to run, then every mile will have been worth it.
Let’s break the stronghold cancer has in so many lives!
I know many families are struggling financially right now, but cancer does not rest and neither should we in our fight to stop it! Please consider making a donation below. I am committed to RUN each and every mile of this half-marathon (no walking) in honor of these kids. I have a long way to go in my training but I will not give up! I’ll be running 13.1 miles, so you can donate a certain amount for each mile I run or whatever amount you can afford and feel led to give.
Your donations will go directly toward cancer research and to help families affected by childhood cancers.
THANK YOU, thank you, thank you so much for supporting such a great cause!
